When Toby was born, I had a few different cloth nappies that I’d won in a giveaway, plus the inevitable stack of disposable nappies that come in bumper packs from the midwife. Neither were the perfect option for us but with two years of parenthood comes experience (of sorts!) and so with Martha, I knew that I wanted to use gNappies with her from the start.

Before Martha was born, I filmed a little vlog about gNappies, how they work and my plans for using them with ‘Baby Girl’. I knew that I wanted her to be in them right from the start because everything about using these nappies just makes sense. gNappies’ tag line is that they’re redefining the disposable and they really are. You can find out more in my video:

With some adorable newborn gPants packed in my hospital bag alongside 100% biodegradable inserts, it was as easy to use gNappies on Martha as it would have been any disposable, only with these I knew that instead of filling up landfill sites, I would simply be washing the gPants and the inserts would decompose within just a few weeks. Win!

Now I have used and do use ‘standard’ disposable nappies, but they are far from being my first choice and the reason I love gNappies is because I can have the convenience of a disposable but without any plastic going to landfill. A wet insert can even go on the compost heap and they are fully biodegradable, with a composting time of only about 90 days.

The newborn gPants are suitable up to around 10lb, so for Martha this was about 3 weeks of life because our girl likes her milk! She then had about 6 more weeks in the small sized ones and is now in mediums *sob*. The pouches in gNappies are waterproof, breathable and create a seal around baby’s legs, making them very good at containing all the joyous explosions that newborns create!

When Martha was 3 weeks old I went to BlogCamp in Birmingham and we only needed two changes of gPants between insert changes. In the small sized ones at BML16 in London 5 weeks later it was the same story – 8 hours of being passed around for cuddles, loads of feeds and some poopsplosions but only two gPants throughout the whole day and the inserts being popped in the bin, with me knowing that they would soon reduce to nothing in the ground.

Using gNappies from day 1 has been really simple and I harp on about how great these nappies are to anyone who will listen! I do need to restash now, because Toby is in large gPants and I’d like a couple of girly mediums for Martha, with their beautiful new Gee I Love The Sea print top pf my list!
