16 Week Midwife Appointment At the 8 week booking in appointment with the midwife, they can’t really do anything to ascertain that the pregnancy is progressing well, because it’s far too early to feel anything or hear a heartbeat. This can be excruciating when you’re so desperate for reassurance and the following 4 week wait until your first scan feels like a lifetime. At our 16 week appointment, we spoke about how I’d been feeling and that the scan had been fantastic. Phil asked our lovely midwife if she’d be able to hear the heartbeat at this time. She said that they’re told not to listen for one because even by then, apparently there’s still a chance of not being able to hear it even if it’s there. That said, she then said she would have a try for us, but not to panic if we didn’t hear anything. She needn’t have bothered with the warning, because the very moment she placed the doppler on the cold gel on my belly, there was a musical, rhythmic beat filling the room. The 12 Week Pregnancy Scan

12 Week Pregnancy Scan Photo I was only 4 weeks pregnant when we found out and in spite of my tightening trousers, stomach churning nausea and hatred for all smells, it was still a long and nervous wait until the scan. As the sonographer put the gel on my belly, Phil and I gripped hands tightly, desperate for that definitive proof of our baby’s existence and health. Within second a clear image formed on the screen and there was our perfect, wriggling miracle. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I cry a lot when I experience strong emotions, be they good or bad. As we watched our baby kick and stretch though, barely a tear rolled down my cheek. I needed to savour the incredible moment and it was too special to miss by crying. No images found. We were given 7 beautiful pictures to take home and our due date was brought forward by just one day. This meant our 12 week milestone had actually been on Christmas Day, which I quite liked as it’d been our first Christmas as a married couple and in our new cottage.
