Isn’t it wonderful to curl up on the sofa in a blanket with a warm cuppa on a chilly winter night? Even better, wrapping your gorgeous little baby in a soft, cosy blanket for a loving snuggle. Toby has a few gorgeous blankets, one knitted for him by a close friend, one hand-stitched with his name and date of birth by another friend. I would hate for him not to be wrapped up warm, feeling safe, snug and secure, yet for many babies and children that is a sad reality.
Supported by celeb ambassador Rachel Stevens, Dettol have launched their Baby Blanket Donation charity with the aims of highlighting both the risks of bacteria on blankets and also the fact that there is a shortage of them for babies and children from disadvantaged families. Poor hygiene can lead to illness such as diarrhoea and vomiting, so with approximately 50 babies born into poverty every minute of every day^, if those families cannot provide hygienic conditions for their children then we are looking at a lot of poorly babies.
How can we help? Well very simply, we can donate a blanket to Dettol who will then wash all donations with their Anti-Bacterial Laundry Cleanser and distribute them to families in need. Not only that, but for every blanket donated they will also donate £1 to Sparks, the children’s medical research charity which pioneers research into medical conditions affecting babies, children and pregnant women. Their work helps many families who are affected by serious illness or disability and every pound raised goes towards helping more families. There is also a Twitter account, @DettolBlanket, where you can #sharethememories of you and your little ones snuggled up and tell the world that you’ve donated for this great cause.
Head on over to Dettol’s donate page for further details about the charity and how you can get involved. If you’re ready to send a blanket in then it’s free and simple, just pop it in the post to: Dettol Baby Blanket Donation, FREEPOST RTKJ-YSGS-SSHR, The Hay Loft, Balcombe Place Stables, Balcombe, RH17 6AZ. Don’t forget to #sharethememories on Twitter and you can make your donations until the end of December.

** I received a bottle of Dettol Anti-Bacterial Laundry Cleanser for writing this post, but I wrote it because I think it’s a really worthwhile cause!**
